RawBC Market Reports

We will be posting information to help members maintain and sustain the Raw Foods lifestyle, specifically the best (and most inexpensive) places to find quality organic fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, and what is currently in season and available around town. In that context, we invite everyone to contribute their tips to the Market Report on an ongoing basis. What are you currently enjoying fresh-food-wise, and where is the best place in Vancouver and the regional areas in BC to find it? Let us know!

This time around, we'd like to announce the imminent reopening of one of the best places to obtain quality organic produce on the west side of Vancouver, and that is West Pointe Organics.

Originally located on West Broadway near MacDonald, West Pointe predates the era of Capers and Choices and has always been a reliable source for the best quality fruits and vegetables, as well as dried goods and dairy products. To their credit, West Pointe has always been focused on the vegetarian diet and have never sold flesh foods, making it an ideal market for vegans to shop (I always feel a bit queasy at Capers when the person ahead of me at the checkout slaps a slab of purplish meat on the conveyor). However, a few months ago they were forced to vacate their longstanding location because of an exorbitant rent increase.

Now, West Pointe is relocating to a new store at 2625 West 4th Ave (& Trafalgar, on the north side of 4th). The new awning is up and recently I stopped by to find out when the store would be opening. The owner, Terry, showed me around inside (it looks great, a much nicer layout than the old store). Especially worth noting is the consistently high quality of their avocados and apples. RawBC members receive 10% off their purchases with a valid RawBC membership card. So we are happy to welcome back West Pointe Market.
